A manufacturer of ball valves needed an improved way to identify their products. Their valve bodies used for residential applications needed a highly visible mark to indicate that they are lead-free. This helps ensure that the valves are used in the right applications and helps installation and maintenance personnel easily identify them in the field.
An ST spray marking system was incorporated into the production process to meet the marking requirement. During production, each valve body is placed in a part holding fixture where the fitting is threaded onto it. Then the ST spray marking head applies a blue dot with ethanol-based ink. The parts are then placed on conveyor where they proceed to a leak testing station where the part is submersed in water for several minutes. The mark remains clearly visible, ensuring lasting product identification.
