A manufacturer of offshore drilling tools was looking for a better way to print part numbers and batch codes on round rubber parts. After making some prototypes for their customer, which they marked with a paint pen, they were ready to ramp up production to a high volume. They contacted Pannier Corporation for some sample marking and recommendations.

After assessing the quality of marks that could be made on the parts, it was determined that while a high-resolution ink jet printer made nice marks very quickly, a FYBRA fiber laser made marks of equal quality but without the need for any ink. The cycle time for marking each part with the laser was fast enough to meet their production needs, and the marks are permanent.
